Soy exports intensify in the corridors of the Port of Paranagua 06/04/2021 - 14:18

The volume of soybeans exported through the Eastern Export Corridor at the Port of Paranagua (known as Corex) increased by almost 232% from February to March. This year, in the first quarter, 2,166,837 tons of the bulk were exported through the complex that integrates public silos and nine private terminals.

“The tendency is to intensify more and more from now on. Our expectation is that the volume of soybeans exported this year will be as large as it was last year. Although it is starting later, we are sure that the efficiency of the operators and the permanent investments in the public flow structure will pay off throughout the year”, says the CEO of Portos do Parana, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

As Garcia explains, this year, due to the delay in harvesting soybeans because of the climatic issues faced both when planting oilseeds - when there was a drought - and when harvesting - when the rain was an obstacle -, the product ended up arriving at the ports later.

In January, only 30 thousand tons of soy were exported this year through the Eastern Export Corridor at the Port of Paranagua. In February, it jumped to 494,899 tons and, in the last month of March, it reached 1,641,938 tons.

TOTAL - Adding the other products sold by Corex (soybean meal, wheat and corn), from January to March, there are already 3,652,860 tons of products exported. In this total, the increase registered from February to the last month of March was around 138%.

Of soybean meal, in the first quarter of 2021, 880,485 tons were exported by Corex. Of corn, 591,538 tons (almost double the amount exported last year, in the period). This year, there was 14 thousand tons of wheat exported by the complex.

TO COMPARE - In the first quarter of 2020, by Corex, 4,721,471 tons of products were exported. Soybeans (grain), 3,348,522 tons; soybean meal, 1,075,147 tons; and corn 297,802 tons.

Last year, in the period, there was no export of wheat by the complex.

WEST - By berth 201, in the West Export Corridor of the Port of Paranagua, 373,379 tons of soybeans and soybean meal were exported in this first quarter of 2021.

This year, with a new terminal connected to the west complex, the volume of products exported was 68.5% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2020 - 221,532 tons exported of soybeans, in grain and meal.
