Ports of Paraná registered an increase of 8% in the cargo movement until August 10/09/2020 - 12:38

The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Paraná exceeds 38.67 million tons in 2020. The total accumulated from January to August this year is 8.4% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2019, when 35.65 millions of tons were transported.

“The volume handled last year was the best in history. This is, so far, we have handled almost 73% of this movement and the expectations are very good. If we manage to maintain the same average for the next months, from September to December, we should end 2020 with a new record”, says the CEO of the company Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

According to him, despite a totally atypical year due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, foreign trade performed well, with a steady increase, mainly in exports. "This is a reflection of the measures that were adopted by the Paraná State Government and by the companies that operate in our ports, to protect workers and ensure that services would not be interrupted," says Garcia.

Considering only the month, August, 5.37 million tons arrived or left Brasil through the ports of Paraná. The volume is 2.27% high than that registered at the same month in 2019.
