The Ports of Parana had the best semester in its history 14/07/2021 - 17:56

The ports of Paranagua and Antonina had the best semester of its history, with more than twenty-nine million tons of cargoes handled. The total tonnage of imports and exports, from January to June, in this year, was 3% higher than the one registered in the same period of 2020, that was the previous historical record - 28.18 tons.

The values generated with these transactions have also grown. As the Brazilian Ministry of Economy shows, the exports at the ports of Parana totaled US$ 9,6 billion, a high of 11% comparing to the first six months last year (US$ 8,6 billion). With the imports, the growth in value was about 35%, coming to US$ 7,5 billion (in 2020 it was US$ 5,5 billion).

The volume has already exceeded in almost 10 million tons the movement registered ten years ago, in the first semester of two thousand eleven. According to the CEO at Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia, this means that the growth of our ports is accelerated.

“If we continue in this rhythm, the projection of the Brazilian National Port Logistics Plan – of handling sixty million tons – will be reached a lot sooner than in two thousand and thirty”, says. Last year, we loaded and unloaded more than fifty-seven million tons of products.

HIGHLIGHTS – Both the general cargo segment and the liquid bulk recorded a 12% increase in the first half of this year. Of general cargo, there were 6,585,462 tons handled, in both directions of trade, this year. In 2020, there were 5,879,139 tons.

A highlight was the movement of vehicles, which registered a 34% increase overall. There were 46,532 import and export units. Last year, in the period, they were 34.727 units.

Of containers, this year, 460,925 TEUs (specific units equivalent to 20 feet) were transported. Imports exceeded exports and showed higher growth. There were 239,429 imported TEUs (up 4% compared to 2020) and 221,499 exported (2% increase).

Still in the general cargo segment, cellulose exports were also in evidence, with a high of 3% comparing the 349,916 tons exported in the first half this year to the 338,966 tons of 2020.

The sugar in sack was highlighted in the Port of Antonina: high of 761%. There were 133,925 tons this year and 15,548 tons last year. In Paranaguá, the export volume totaled 263,069 tons in 2021.

LIQUIDS – The movement of liquid bulk totaled 4,058,618 tons from January to June. The performance was pulled, mainly, by imports, highlighting the methanol (500,068 tons and high of 14% in the semester) and vegetable oil (179,564 tons and high of 583%) shipments.

SOLID BULKS – Dry bulk accounted for almost 64% of all shipments in the first six months of the year. There were 18,437,611 tons imported and exported. The segment, in general, showed a drop of 1% in relation to the 18,681,401 tons handled in the same period of 2020.

"While the soy meal registered a drop of 9% and soybeans a drop of 17% in comparison with the historical movements of 2020, corn and sugar registered significant increases in exports. In imports, fertilizers stand out, with an increase of 16%," said Garcia.

Of corn, 591,538 tons were exported this year, 99% more than the 297,802 tons shipped in the same period in 2020. Of bulk sugar, 1,593,532 tons were exported last semester, 32% more than the 1,203,094 tons recorded last year.
