Meat exports increase through the Ports of Parana 24/01/2020 - 09:59

Meat exports through the Port of Paranagua rose 17.58%. In 2019, throughout the year, there were more than two million tons; in 2018, 1.7 million. With the measures of the Ministry of Agriculture, which reforms the recognition of Paraná as the area free of classical swine fever and shorten the path to the status of the area free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, the productive sector expects even more from this year on.

According to the data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC), the beef was the product that most increased in the comparison between exports in the last two years was beef, which grew 64.5%. With almost 226 thousand tons exported in the year, the Port of Paranagua is the second in exports of the product among Brazilian ports.

The beef that leaves via Paranaguá represents 14.55% of the total product exported by the country and has as main destinations China, Hong Kong, Egypt, Israel and Iran.

PIGS - Paranagua pork exports increased 23.22% in the comparison between 2019 and 2018. Last year, the exported volume was 100.67 thousand tons, placing the Paraná terminal in the third position among the country's ports in the operation of that product.

Pig meat exports through Paraná represent 11.4% of the total exported by the country. The main destinations for the product are Hong Kong, China, Singapore, South Africa and Vietnam.

PRODUCTIVE SECTOR - Despite chicken exports having registered a smaller increase - the difference between the movements of 2019 and 2018 was 12.5% (positive) - the Port of Paranagua continues to be the national leader, accounting for more than 42% of the national exports of the product.

In 2019, just over 1.65 million tonnes of poultry meat was shipped mainly to China, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong.

ORIGIN - Just over 74% of the meat exported through the Port of Paranagua originates in the State of Parana. Recently, by normative instruction, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) reinforced the recognition of Paraná as an area free from classical swine fever (PSC). The measure removes the State from a group formed by 14 federative units and reducing its vulnerability to eventual cases of the disease in the non-free area.

Still at the end of 2019, MAPA also prohibited the use and commercialization of the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine in the State, as well as the entry of animals vaccinated against the disease (except for the entry of cattle and buffaloes for slaughter, which must be sealed vehicle and destined for slaughterhouse with official inspection).

Based on these steps, with increased sanitary surveillance, Parana has adopted measures to achieve recognition as an area free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination by the Ministry of Agriculture (which should come in the second half of this year) and international recognition, next year.

PARTICIPATION - According to the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of Paraná, as the livestock production in Paraná is evolving, qualifying, gaining new chancelas and advancing in the question of the end of the foot-and-mouth disease vaccination and other processes, the participation of Paraná meat in Brazilian exports tends to grow more and more.

According to the Beef Cattle Commission of the Federation of Agriculture of the State of Paraná (FAEP), the State has competitiveness and a lot of potential to expand this offer, both for the national and international markets
