Imports boost cargo movement at the ports of Parana 12/05/2021 - 16:24

Imports pulled cargo movement through the ports of Paraná in the first four months of the year. With high quantities in the discharge of products from the General Cargo and Solid Bulk segments, the Paranagua and Antonina terminals handled 18,262,189 tons, from January to April this year.

“We ended the first four months with the volume cargo 1% higher than the same period last year. The rain and the delay in the arrival of the soybeans harmed the exports, while the imports had a high of 12%”, explains the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

In total, it entered in Brazil, through the ports of Parana, 7.444.115 tons of imported cargoes in 2021. Last year, it was 6.628.630 tons. “The variety of products, that come in container, for example, have grown 25%. In the solid bulks, highlight to the unloading of malt and barley, with a high of 21%, and fertilizers, 12%”.

FERTILIZER – The volume of fertilizers represents almost 43% of the total imports at the Ports of Paranagua e Antonina. In the first four months of this year, they were 3.221.386 tons of fertilizers imported. At the same period, in 2020, they were 2.875.263 tons.

Considering only the imports on the last April, they were unloaded 830.191 tons of fertilizer – 13% more than on the same 31 days, in 2020, with 734.234 tons.

The Port of Paranagua remains the main port of entry for fertilizers arriving in Brazil. Imports through Parana's terminals account for more than 30% of the product imported to the country's fields.

BEER INDUSTRY - In a lower volume, but with a higher percentage of increase when comparing the periods of 2021 and 2020, the discharge of malt and barley totaled 234,977 tons this year. The products are used as raw material for the beer industry and had a 21% increase compared to the first four months of last year, when 193,560 tons were imported.

Considering the movement in the last month of April, the increase registered in imports reached 2,511%. While in April 2020, 2,998 tons of barley and malt were imported; this year, in the month, there were 78,260 tons.

GENERAL CARGO - In the general cargo segment, the first quarter of 2021 registered 1,785,909 tons of imported products. In the same period, the previous year, there were 1,427,162 tons.

In the month of April, the increase registered in the 20/21 comparison was 8%. In the last month, 422,838 tons of general cargo were imported. In 2020, in the same 31 days, 391,333 tons.
